architecture for human and non-human inhabitants of our planet

about us

Phyta Biodesign is a London based studio / lab with a mission to re-wild the built environment by promoting coexistence between humans and ecosystems.

We bridge data-driven design, material research, and advanced digital fabrication to create façade systems that provide habitats for critical species threatened by urbanization and climate change.

Our architecturally integrated green infrastructure solutions not only address the decline of urban biodiversity but also utilize the benefits of ecosystem services to enhance building performance.

We are pioneering a paradigm shift towards an interspecies built environment with a vision to transform our concrete jungles into thriving ecosystems that benefit both human and non-human inhabitants of our planet.

Fauna is a 3D printed cladding system that embeds microhabitats of endangered urban species with in architectural facades. From nesting cavities for birds to foraging surfaces for insects, our data-driven design paired with digital fabrication transforms inert building surfaces into thriving ecosystems.
